Building a startup from scratch: my experience with Boum
Not a client mandate, but my own path: I co-founded Boum AG and validated it step by step. I bring this approach into mandates on new business units.
At a glance
Who
Boum AG, my own startup. I co-founded it in 2021 and was CEO on the business side until mid 2023.
Topic
Building a company from scratch: clarifying the need, understanding the market and selling.
Format
My own experience, not a client mandate.
Approach
Testing iteratively in three stages: proof of concept, proof of production, proof of sales.
The starting point
Boum started from zero, as a startup from scratch. Before we built anything, we had to be sure the need was really there.
How we proceeded
Four steps at the start, then iteration in three stages.
- 1Analysing the needDoes the problem really exist, and how big is it?
- 2Talking to customersInterviews with potential customers.
- 3Analysing the competitionWho solves the problem today, and how?
- 4SellingSales, to test whether anyone pays for it.
- 5Testing iterativelyIn three stages: proof of concept, proof of production, proof of sales.
The impact
A validated, well funded company on the way to product-market fit.
Since its founding, Boum AG has raised CHF 1.3 million in total, including a round of just under one million francs in December 2022.
What I bring from it: prove the need first, then build in stages. This is the foundation of my mandates on new business units.
